Ski season kicks off in Simcoe County with two resorts open for business

The wait is over. Ski season is officially here, with two resorts opening their lifts Friday, marking the official start of winter for skiers and snowboarders.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone reported a 35 to 60-centimetre base, with 15 slopes, six lifts, and a rail garden at the Yodler Terrain Park ready for riders.

The resort offered the first 50 guests in the Summit6 Xpress lift line giveaways as part of opening day celebrations. Early-season lift tickets are priced at $65 plus HST through Dec. 9, and the resort’s Flex8 Flash Sale ends Friday at 11:59 p.m.

Horseshoe Valley Resort also opened its slopes Friday, operating from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The resort says snowmaking and recent cold temperatures have created strong early-season conditions. Adult day tickets are $50 for opening day, with regular pricing resuming next week.

The season will expand next week as Blue Mountain Resort prepares for its opening on Thursday. Crews are testing lifts and finishing slope work at Ontario’s largest ski destination, which noted it would continue to feature its freestyle terrain park and introduce a new reserve-day ticket for families during peak periods.

Snow Valley Ski Resort is scheduled to open one day later, on Dec. 12, with lifts running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on opening day.

Night operations and tubing will follow on Dec. 19. Lift tickets go on sale Monday and will be date-specific and non-refundable, making early planning essential.
