Nearly a week ago, police in Barrie responded to a call about a plastic tote bin filled with kitties in the downtown area. When a member of the Barrie Police Service witnessed the litter of six-week old kittens, he reached out to Furry Friends Animal Shelter for help. “Lo and behold, when he opened the lid, he was greeted by seven pairs of eyes peering up at him, hungry, crawling with fleas, and desperately in need of care,” said volunteers at the Barrie shelter. The officer delivered the kittens to the doorstep of Furry Friends, where volunteers immediately took the fuzzy babies in for care. Fleas were combed away and bowls were filled with much-needed kitten food. “It didn’t take long for these babies to start exploring, they love to hog the cat tree and they are extra enthusiastic about ripping apart toilet paper when they think nobody is looking,” continued members at the shelter. Thanks to the the community’s support, these kittens have everything they need to grow healthy and strong and survive their unfortunate circumstances. At only six weeks old, they have some growing to do before they can be adopted. “They’re also quickly figuring out how to use a litter box. Although for the time being, they have decided that the ‘just in case’ puppy pad is better used as a napping spot rather than a potty,” said volunteers. Today, the seven are squeaky clean, well-fed and flea-free. “They’re truly ‘thinking outside of the box’ with their newfound freedom,” shared the shelter over social media.
