Simulated air disaster at CFB Borden held this week

Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden will be conducting a simulated major air disaster response exercise during the week of May 4 to 8.

A plume of smoke will be seen emanating from the simulated crash site. CFB Borden’s Lisle Gate will be closed for 30 minutes to complete an effective response.

An increased presence of Ontario Provincial Police, Essa Fire, and County of Simcoe Emergency Services vehicles and personnel on Base and in the local area is to be expected.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) exercise is meant to ensure all responding agencies’ procedures and cooperation between CFB Borden with local first responders is in sync.

The event is necessary to validate CFB Borden Base’s emergency response plans as mandated by the CAF and Transport Canada.

This event is purely for training purposes and at no time will safety or security be in jeopardy.
