RVH alerts public to long wait times amid high patient volume

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is reporting high patient volumes in its emergency department leading to longer than usual wait times.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) took to social media Tuesday morning to inform the public about unusually high patient volumes in its emergency department, resulting in longer wait times.

In a Facebook post, RVH acknowledged the strain on its emergency services and asked for patience. The hospital emphasized that urgent and life-threatening cases are being prioritized, which may extend waits for less critical patients.

The wait time listed on the RVH website at 11:30 a.m. showed seven and a half hours, with 24 patients waiting while 59 are being treated.

The hospital encouraged those with non-emergency health concerns to consider alternatives to the emergency department, including walk-in clinics, their primary care providers, local pharmacists, or the Regional Virtual Urgent Care Clinic.

For minor illnesses and injuries such as colds, flu, minor limb injuries, urinary tract infections, and skin infections, RVH noted it also offers a Minor Ailment Patient Pathway. Patients can book an arrival time through an online portal to help reduce wait times.
