The downtown branch of the Barrie Public Library held a special show & tell with robots on Monday for kids and kids at heart. Sumobots, small robots, designed and built by members of a local robotics team named Cybernomes put on the demonstration. “We want to have an opportunity to inspire other kids with stuff like this, we want them to have an opportunity to use these little robots, to build them, to program them, to have fun,” said Obi Page with Cybergnomes robotics. The group hopes the hands-on experience will engage kids and spark their interest in different technologies and skill sets. “It’s kind of hard at the start but you get the hang of it at the end,” said one kid on Monday. “They can look at the different components and have fun with it and they can start to understand what robotics is and how important it is,” says Dean Jacksch with Cybernomes. Another demonstration will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Painswick branch of the Barrie Public Library.
