A 40-year-old from Wingham has been charged with allegedly defrauding a GTA church out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Halton Regional Police allege the man, who was the former secretary of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada submitted fraudulent expense claims, and improperly redirected church fund into his personal accounts. Police believe more than $200,000 was improperly diverted from the church. The investigation began in August 2026. The Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada is based in Milton.
