Wire copper thieves impacted hundreds of Telus customers on Friday, the internet provider told CTV News Edmonton. In a statement, Telus said thieves cut cables along 110 Street and caused “significant” damage to its copper lines. It said about 250 customers in the area were impacted by disruptions to phone, internet and TV. Telus said wireless coverage was not affected and that crews arrived “promptly” to begin repairs, though no timeline was given on when services would be restored. The telecom company is working with Edmonton police. It was the second outage in the area recently; on Oct. 24, central and west Edmonton Rogers customers were told that attempted wire theft was responsible for service interruptions that lasted most of the day. “Like other providers, we’re seeing a troubling rise in vandalism and attempted theft to our network infrastructure across the country,” Rogers said at the time.
