Overnight house fire in Gravenhurst prompts multi-station response, road closures

Fire crews across Gravenhurst and Bracebridge responded to a fire in the area prompting several road closures.

Smoke lingered over a Gravenhurst, Ont., home marking the aftermath of a weekend structure fire that drew firefighters from across Muskoka.

Gravenhurst Fire Department, with assistance from Bracebridge Fire, responded Sunday to a blaze along Old Portage Road.

In a post on social media, officials say all stations were dispatched to the home. Fire crews arrived to find the structure in flames prompting an extensive operation that required a tanker shuttle.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Old Portage Road and Brydons Bay Road past Camp Shalom were closed for several hours as crews shuttled water to the fiery scene. Residents were asked to avoid the area while emergency vehicles and apparatus moved in and out.

Gravenhurst Fire officials say a smaller crew and fire apparatus remained on site overnight to monitor hot spots and ensure the fire did not reignite.

Residents in the surrounding area were advised that smoke and the smell of fire could persist into the late hours.

The cause of the fire has not been released, and damage estimates are not available at this time.
