OPP suspends driver’s licence for 30 days after stunt driving stop

A driver in New Tecumseth is facing a stunt driving charge after police say they were caught going nearly twice the speed limit earlier this week.

According to Nottawasaga OPP, members of the detachment’s traffic unit stopped a vehicle early Monday afternoon after clocking it at 106 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on Sideroad 10.

Police said the 30-year-old driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act, and as a result, officers had the vehicle impounded for 14 days and suspended the driver’s licence for 30 days.

The OPP said speeding continues to be a major safety concern on the roads, reminding motorists that excessive speed not only results in stiff penalties but also increases the risk of serious collisions.
