The OPP Central Region is reminding the public about safety ahead of the Civic Holiday long weekend. Police say last year on the Civic Holiday long weekend, there were nine fatalities. “This year, let’s do better,” police say. Authorities also say they laid thousands of charges in the region for speeding, seatbelts, distracted driving and impaired offences. Whether you’re driving, riding, boating or hitting the trails, officers urge people to pay attention, wear your seatbelt, move over for emergency vehicles, not speed and never drive impaired. “Every choice behind the wheel matters,” police say.
