A new public elementary school is coming Tottenham with a $20.2 million boost from the province. The new school will be located at 80 McGahey Street with enough space for 426 students. “[The] new elementary school will support a growing community and help ensure students have the tools they need to succeed, today and into the future,” posted Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson, who made the announcement Thursday morning. The funding is part of the province’s larger plan to build or expand 12 schools across Ontario. “This is exciting news for students and families in New Tecumseth and will certainly ensure that Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students continue to have the opportunity to learn and grow in their community,” said Dawn Stephens, the public board’s director of education. Construction on a Catholic elementary school on Martin Trail in Tottenham is underway, with plans to welcome more than 500 students next fall. Construction on the public school is expected to start in 2026.
