Ontario injects additional $14.5M for Alliston hospital expansion

Alliston hospital will use some of the funding for a helipad.

The Ford Government is helping to support the next step in transforming Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

On Thursday, the province announced an additional $14.5 million to support the redevelopment and expansion of the Alliston hospital, building on previously announced $7.5 million to aid with early planning.

“For generations, Stevenson Memorial Hospital has provided health care support for families in Alliston,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “New Tecumseth is rapidly growing, and so is SMH. This capital grant is another important step towards the end goal of enhancing health care in the region.”

According to the Ford government, this new funding will help with several site works, including a new parking lot and relocation of existing mechanical infrastructure.

Work on these projects has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Once complete, the expanded hospital will increase capacity to 47 beds, triple its emergency department size and include updated technology.

A tender has not yet been awarded for the construction of the new hospital.
