Huntsville OPP reports that its officers have charged several drivers as they work to reduce impaired and dangerous driving over the long weekend. Downtown traffic complaint According to the detachment, officers responded to a traffic complaint at around 8:15 p.m. about a driver in the downtown area of Huntsville. Police say they entered an impaired driving investigation after finding the vehicle. The driver, a 70-year-old Huntsville man, was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres (over 80) and dangerous operation. Unoccupied vehicle A few hours later, at around 11 p.m., Huntsville OPP reports that officers responded to a call about a vehicle in the ditch along a Highway 11 on ramp. Police say the officers found the vehicle, which was unoccupied, and then found the driver, a 40-year-old Bracebridge man, at a nearby business. He was charged with failing to comply with a demand and careless driving. RIDE check At around 1:09 a.m. Saturday morning, Huntsville OPP officers were conducting a RIDE check on Main Street East. Police say one of the drivers, a 43-year-old Hunstville woman, led the officers to entering an impaired driving investigation. She was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and over 80. Safety messaging “The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead if they choose to consume alcohol or drugs,” said Const. Hope Long from Huntsville OPP in a news release. “Consider using a designated driver, taxi, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely.” All three accused were released from custody and are scheduled for June court dates in Bracebridge.
