Saskatchewan’s highest court has ruled against the man accused of second-degree murder in relation to the 2025 shooting death of Tanya Myers near Weyburn. In a decision released Thursday, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal dismissed Chris Fahlman’s bail review application. The accused submitted the application, claiming the court made numerous errors, after initially being denied bail last year. The 43-year-old has been in police custody since his arrest on Nov. 1, 2025 in Regina. Fahlman faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the life or safety of another person. Fahlman was initially charged with manslaughter, which was eventually upgraded. The arrest marked the end of a nearly two-month investigation and a period of worry and unrest in the Weyburn area. Various elements of the court of appeal’s decision are the subject of a publication ban. Myers was travelling as the passenger of a vehicle near Weyburn on Sept. 12 when the vehicle was hit by a bullet, which fatally struck the 44-year-old. A second shot struck a vehicle travelling nearby, although it led to no injuries in that instance.
