Drivers in Newmarket are getting a bit of good news sooner than expected, with a busy stretch of Mulock Drive reopening ahead of schedule following railway rehabilitation work. According to the municipality, Mulock Drive between Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue has fully reopened after a temporary closure that allowed Metrolinx crews to complete upgrades to the railway tracks that cross the roadway. The road had been scheduled to remain closed until the Tuesday evening. The Region says the closure was put in place to allow crews to safely rehabilitate the rail line, which required full access to the crossing area. During the shutdown, Mulock Drive was closed to through traffic, though local access for nearby homes and businesses was maintained throughout the project. York Region notes the railway rehabilitation is part of ongoing transportation improvements aimed at supporting motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users as the area continues to grow.
