Officers from the Huronia West and Nottawasaga detachments joined forces on Tuesday to conduct joint Festive R.I.D.E. checks across Wasaga Beach, Springwater Township, and Essa Township as part of the province-wide campaign to keep roads safe during the holiday season. Police say the coordinated effort is aimed at stopping impaired driving and making sure everyone gets home safely during one of the busiest times of the year. Provincial police say as a result of the afternoon’s enforcement, two people from Wasaga Beach face serious charges. A 32-year-old man was charged with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg and driving with cannabis readily available in the vehicle. A 40-year-old woman faces charges of operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, as well as failure or refusal to comply with a demand from police. “The Festive R.I.D.E. campaign is crucial to protecting everyone on the road,” police stated. “Impaired driving is never worth the risk. We encourage all motorists to plan ahead and make safe choices.” The campaign runs until Jan. 1, 2026, with officers conducting R.I.D.E. checks around the clock, seven days a week, across Ontario. Police urge anyone who suspects impaired driving to call 911 immediately.
