Impaired northern Ont. driver on Highway 400 and 11 arrested after continuing past traffic stop: OPP

A driver from northern Ontario is facing a slew of charges after allegedly driving while impaired and ignoring an attempted traffic stop on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township.

According to Orillia OPP, officers received a traffic complaint just around midnight on Saturday about an ‘erratic’ driver on Highway 400 northbound in Barrie.

Police say officers found the vehicle on Highway 11 northbound in Oro-Medonte Township and tried to pull it over.

The driver allegedly continued past the attempted traffic stop and police say the officers deployed a tire deflation device, which stopped the vehicle a short distance away.

The 53-year-old driver from Temagami was charged with the following 12 counts:

• Operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs.
• Two counts of fleeing from a peace officer.
• Two counts of dangerous operation.
• Two counts of operation while prohibited.
• Three counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
• Failing to comply with an undertaking.
• Failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held pending a Saturday bail hearing. Their licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
