Ice dancers trained in Barrie recognized on world level

An ice dancing pair, trained at Barrie’s Mariposa School of Skating, have made it to world level competition.

Summer Homick and Nicholas Buelow earned a silver medal at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships and have officially been selected to the Skate Canada Junior World Team.

“This is exciting not only for Summer and Nicholas, but for the skaters in Barrie, to see someone who started here from the beginning, make it to world level competition is inspiring,” says David Islam, co-owner of Mariposa. “Their dedication, professionalism, and drive are exceptional, and we are thrilled to see them recognized at the national level and selected to represent Canada.”

The pair will represent the country on the international stage in Germany at the Bavarian Open at the end of January and in Estonia at the World Junior Championships in March.
