Huronia Road set to reopen After months of being closed, Huronia Road is almost ready to reopen. CTV Barrie's Brandon Gonez has more.

A busy south Barrie road is set to reopen after being closed for two months.

Huronia Road has been closed since May for sanitary and road work. The project was supposed to be done in eight weeks, but construction has run longer than expected.

“It did end up to be 10 weeks because of dealing with some underground water on site,” says Stew Patterson, design and construction manager for the city.

The project is part of a $14 million project that centres on the reconstruction of Mapleview Drive. It has made life difficult for some local business owners.

“For the past months, the lunch hour and rush has slowed down. It has cut down by 30 per cent,” says Lien Tran, owner of Quing's Cuisine. “It wasn't as bad when Mapleview was closed, but now with Huronia closed, that was the shortcut.”

The aforementioned construction on Mapleview had reduced lanes or was out right closed for months.

The city plans to have Huronia open this weekend. Once that happens, crews will shift their focus east along Mapleview to Country Lane for bridge work.

Construction there is expected to finish in November.
