Thick, black smoke encircled the town offices in Huntsville Monday. Maintenance staff checked out the alarm panel and determined there was a fire in the public washroom on Main Street. Huntsville Fire department got the call around 11 a.m., once the fire alarms were activated inside Huntsville Town Hall. Upon arrival, firefighters entered the washroom and located a small fire. The fire department says the fire was quickly extinguished using a portable fire extinguisher, and damage was contained to the washroom area only. Firefighters then ventilated the building to remove smoke and ensure safe air quality. Within an hour, firefighters had ventilated the building so staff could return. Huntsville Town Hall will remain closed for the remainder of the day. Residents are asked to view the town’s website and social media channels for updates. Huntsville’s Fire Prevention Officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
