The number of total charges laid in is after provincial police detachments around the region have concluded Operation Safe Driver. The initiative launched last Sunday and concluded on Saturday. In that time, OPP officers conducted targeted enforcement on commercial vehicles and their drivers to ensure safe driving behaviour, vehicle safety, proper licensing and documentation. Dufferin OPP say they handed out a total of 29 charges related to commercial vehicles over the course of last week. Police handed out one charge for speeding, another for disobeying a sign and a third for incorrect documentation. OPP says four charges were laid out for infractions relating to permits, plates and drivers’ licences and another four charges were handed out defective equipment. Officers handed out six charges for load and dimension infractions and 12 charges relating to vehicle inspection and maintenance. Police say during the course of Operation Safe Driver, they laid 217 non-commercial vehicle-related charges.
