Grade eight grads drive their tractors to school in Creemore

It’s all about the arrival and country pride for students at the Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School.

Students didn’t arrive in limo’s for their graduation Wednesday night, but tractors instead.

Xander Watt teamed up with his buddies to shine up his tractor for the special arrival.

“We’ve lived in the country our whole life, ” Watt says. “We want to show up on a thing that’s been on our farm and in our family for quite a bit of years.”

It’s a tradition at this rural school and Jared Young drove his John Deere 6330.

“It’s a passion, it’s pride. We’re from a farm town and we want to show that, I think it shows who we are,” adds Young.

In previous years students have arrived on horseback, trucks and antique cars. It’s a final time to shine before moving onto high school.

“It’s really quite a spectacle,” says principal Heather Birchall. “The adults never know what to expect so it’s always a little bit of fun to see what new inventive ways are going to come down the road.”

The students are also responsible for decorating the gym for graduation. This year’s theme is under the sea, inspired by the fish they made in woodshop class.
