Four-week closure starts at Orillia’s Terry Fox Circle for road and trail upgrades

Visitors to Couchiching Park in Orillia will need to adjust their routes for the next few weeks as work gets underway on Terry Fox Circle.

Starting Monday, the popular roadway and a portion of the pedestrian trail will be closed for about four weeks while crews complete long-awaited improvements.

The upgrades include a smoother roadway into the park, new pedestrian safety features around Terry Fox Circle, improved drainage, and fresh sidewalks and boulevards along the trail.

The City says the work is designed to make the park more accessible and safer for everyone.

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

In an August 21 notice to residents and businesses in the area, the City stated it would do what it could to limit the inconvenience to residents.

“We thank you for your patience and co-operation throughout the duration of the project,” the letter added.

For those living in the area, the City says curbside collection will continue as usual despite the closure.

Officials emphasized the short-term disruption would lead to longer-term benefits for the waterfront park.

The City says the project is expected to wrap up by Oct. 3.
