Environment Canada ends rainfall warning

Environment Canada has ended a rainfall warning for the entire region.

The weather office issued the rainfall warning on Sunday morning for most of central and midwestern Ontario. Meteorologists had said the system was capable of producing 25 to 35 millimetres of rain.

Rain started falling on Sunday evening and was heavy at times.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and several conservation authorities have issued flood advisories for low-lying areas, including spots in Parry Sound and down through the Lake Simcoe area.

The concern is that the ground is still frozen and saturated, meaning the rain has nowhere to go and would likely pool.

A special weather statement advising of gusty winds is in effect for Richmond Hill and Vaughan.

Environment Canada says these gusts could reach 80 km/h.
