An elementary school in Barrie is receiving a $6.5 million expansion, creating 184 new elementary spaces at Cundles Road West. The Ontario government announced the investment toward the Emma King Elementary School Monday, stating it will help ensure students have access to safe, modern learning environments. The province says the project is part of its investment in 12 new or expanded schools across fast-growing communities in Ontario. “By building and expanding schools across the province, we’re making sure students can learn in modern, high-quality environments that support strong achievement,” said Minister of Education Paul Calandra. “These investments will help students gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed and prepare for rewarding careers.” The government is delivering on its plan to invest $23 billion over the next 10 years to build, renew, and improve schools so students and teachers have the environments they need to succeed. “The funding for a new addition to Emma King Elementary School in Barrie is great news for our community,” said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte. According to the Simcoe County District School Board, the timeline for this expansion is 2027.
