Authorities arrested a suspect following a shooting in a residential area of Langley, B.C., that left one person injured Monday evening. Langley RCMP said officers responded to reports of gunfire in the city’s Aldergrove neighbourhood shortly before 7:30 p.m., and that a victim was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. In a news release, the detachment said a suspect vehicle was seen “driving erratically” near 256 Street and 24 Avenue after the shooting, and that members arrested a suspect with help from a police dog unit. “Officers successfully disabled the suspect vehicle and took the individual into custody,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, in a statement. A picture shared by police shows a vehicle in a ditch near the side of a road, stopped bumper-to-bumper with an RCMP cruiser. Sharoom told CTV News he couldn’t provide any further details on the takedown due to “the dynamic nature of the investigation.” A slew of charges have since been approved against 40-year-old Kyle Jensen, including break and enter, robbery with a firearm, and theft of a motor vehicle, though authorities said they could not comment further on what happened before or after Monday’s shooting. “Circumstances surrounding the motive into what led into this crime spree is still under investigation,” Sharoom said in an email. Jensen is also charged with possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present, flight from police, dangerous driving, unlawfully causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of possessing a firearm without a licence and three counts of pointing a firearm. In the detachment’s news release, the RCMP said investigators believe the shooting was an “isolated incident,” and that there is no ongoing risk to public safety. Jensen remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon pending a bail hearing, authorities said. Langley RCMP asked anyone with information on the incident, dash-cam video or surveillance footage captured in the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.
