One person is dead after a police shooting in west Edmonton on Monday. Police responded to the Hilton Garden Inn at 17610 Stony Plain Rd. at 7:14 p.m. after a report that two men inside a hotel room had a gun. Officers attempted to establish contact with the men. During that time, a man exited and re-entered the room a number of times and advanced toward police with a pair of scissors, an Edmonton Police Service release says. Two officers shot the 57-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. No officers or other emergency workers were injured. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will now investigate the actions of the officers. ASIRT is tasked with investigating any police incident involving serious injury or death. No further information has been provided.
