Death investigation in Midland

Provincial police are investigating after an individual was found injured and later died in the hospital in Midland.

Provincial police launched a death investigation in a Midland neighbourhood after they say an individual was found injured over the weekend.

Police are releasing very few details at this time, but Southern Georgian Bay OPP issued a statement noting a person was found injured shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the injured individual was found at a residence on Glen Bogie Crescent and taken to the hospital where they were later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed. Police are also not saying if they have anyone in custody or if they are looking for any suspects.

“While the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety,” OPP stated, adding, “The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.”

It remains unclear if the individual was found inside the house or outside. Officers surrounded the Glen Bogie Crescent property with yellow police tape. South Georgian Bay OPP are being assisted with the investigation by the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP K9 Unit.

Provincial police confirmed to CTV News on Monday afternoon that a second location at Chain Gate Drive is relevant to the investigation, but would not disclose any further details. Yellow police tape surrounds that home as well, with both properties under police guard.
