Child taken to hospital after injured in river north of Willoughby Road

According to reports, a child was injured in a river north of Willoughby Road and is currently in the hospital.

On Monday afternoon, fire crews along with Simcoe County paramedics responded to a water rescue in Essa Township.

When emergency crews arrived in the area, the child was already out of the river and conscious.

Essa Fire says the team assisted with loading the child into a stokes basket and carrying him back to the parking lot on Willoughby Road.

Paramedics transported him to the nearby hospital to receive care.

Essa Fire Chief Doug Burgin told CTV News it was a great coordination between paramedic services and fire.

It remains unclear as to why the child was in the river and how severe his injuries were.
