Bradford business employees stuck in Jamaica

Bradford business employees are stuck in Jamaica.

Mike McGraw of Bradford has one eye on his bumper to bumper business and one eye on the computer today as he continues to try and get six of his employees back from a business vacation in Jamacia.

“There’s really no answers, so we really don’t know,” says McGraw from his Bradford business.

The workers are stuck in Jamacia after Hurricane Melissa ravaged most of the country and its infrastructure. They were hoping to get home some time this weekend, but McGraw says that doesn’t seem likely.

“If there is no airport, then the flight is meaningless. The biggest thing is nobody is getting information. Is it going to open?” McGraw asks.

The group is staying at a Sandals resort and have been fed and have access to water. One of the people in the group is pregnant. Right now, they are safe but McGraw just wants them home.

“Rotary worldwide has over 45,000 clubs in over 200 countries -- over 1.2 million people,” says Rotary Club of Barrie president Todd Tuckey.

The Rotary Club of Barrie says its international organization is teaming up with Shelter Box to try and assist people on the ground in need. That need is required quickly.

“You can’t even describe it. I mean I’ve seen it, I’ve watched it on CTV and it’s just unfathomable what those people have gone through and what they are going to go through when the clean up starts,” says Tuckey.

Shelter Box and Rotary say because they were in the area as a precaution prior to the hurricane, they are in a position to help those in need quickly. The organizations say they have enough emergency aid to support about 10,000 people stored nearby in Barbados and Panama.
