Battery recycling bags ready for pickup

The City of Barrie is giving you the opportunity to keep your dead batteries out of the landfill with Battery Collection Week next month. Battery Collection Week runs Nov. 3 to 7.

To prepare, residents can pick up a battery recycling bag from a select facility across the city. Throw your batteries in the bag and set it out for curbside collection.

Battery bags are typically mailed out but due to the Canada Post strike, pick-up is required this year.

According to a press release from the City of Barrie, residents should ensure that the battery recycling bags are clearly visible. They are to be placed on top of either the recycling, compost, or garbage carts—not inside.

The City also says that the program is for rechargeable and single-use batteries only. Accepted battery types include AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9-Volt, and button batteries, typically used for watches and key fobs.

If you are unable to pick up a bag, the City states you can use a clear, sealable, or unused battery bag from a previous year.

• Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive
• East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone Street East
• City Hall (Service Barrie), 70 Collier Street, first floor
• Barrie Public Library, Downtown Branch, 60 Worsley Steet
• Barrie Public Library, Holly Branch, 555 Essa Road, Unit 17
• Barrie Public Library, Painswick Branch, 48 Dean Avenue
• Barrie Landfill Site, 272 Ferndale Drive North
