Barrie opens applications for 2026 recreation and sports community grant

The city of Barrie says it is now accepting applications for the 2026 Recreation and Sport Community Grant and there is no set limit on funding requests.

The city says the grant aims to enhance access to recreation and sports opportunities for residents of the city.

“The Recreation and Sport Community Grant helps break down barriers and expand access to opportunities that keep residents active, engaged, and supported,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall.

Organizations can apply for funding if they fall within the category of creating programming new or innovative recreation and sport opportunities or creating capital improvement projects.

For either category, applicants must be an incorporated not-profit-organization, a community association operating as a not-profit-organization it or a registered charitable organization.

Any for-profit organizations may apply for the grant in partnership with a non-for-profit organization, provided they receive no direct financial benefit.

Any events or programming planned by the applicant must occur within city limits.

Since the grant’s inception in 2022, the city claims to have awarded more than $800,000 in funding. Deadline for applications is 4:30 pm. on June 12.
