Barrie Line GO trains disrupted for track upgrades: Here’s what you need to know

Barrie Line commuters should plan for service changes this weekend as GO Transit crews carry out track work.

Starting Saturday until the end of service on Sunday there will be no GO train service between Rutherford GO and Union Station. Trains will continue to run as usual between Rutherford and Allandale Waterfront GO.

GO replacement buses will operate from Rutherford GO to Highway 407 Bus Terminal, where riders can connect to the TTC Line 1 to reach Union Station. GO Transit will not provide service to or from Downsview Park GO during this time, and riders are encouraged to use the TTC.

Travelers connecting from Route 65R to Barrie line trains should expect up to a 15-minute transfer, while the bus ride between Rutherford GO and Highway 407 Bus Terminal will take about 20 to 25 minutes. Regular train service is scheduled to resume Monday.

Metrolinx says the work is part of a larger plan to transform the Barrie Line into a two-way, all-day service operating seven days a week. The upgrades include adding a second track in key areas and improving stations at Maple, King City, and Aurora GO.

The agency says these improvements are designed to give commuters a faster, more reliable ride and prepare the line for future expansion.
