Barrie Hill Farms holds second annual Mother’s Day brunch

The cooler weather did not stop families from attending Barrie Hill Farms’ second annual Mother’s Day brunch.

Morris Gervais, owner of Barrie Hill Farms said the event is a great way to welcome families back to the farm for another season.

“It’s a great way for us to welcome all the moms back to the farm for another growing season and say thank you to the moms for all they do,” said Gervais.

The recent warm weather has allowed the farm to welcome asparagus season with open arms.

Every new picking season at the farm means ‘The Sunday Market’ is also back for another year.

Amber Campbell has been organizing The Sunday Market at Barrie Hill Farms and is excited for another season.

“We love coming here with all the vendors to support local and all the small businesses,” said Campbell. “All of these people are local small businesses and shopping local keeps money local.”

Gervais adds that the farm has allowed the public to pick their own vegetables since 1977.

“We have been here, and we have been fortunate to be able to provide food for people in our community and to have their support as well,” said Gervais.

Greg Garside and his business are participating in the market for the first time and said it is important for the community to go out and support local businesses.

“it’s the community supporting the people who work in it and participate in it is very important. It’s much better to buy local small places than big box stores,” said Garside. “Markets like this are a great venue in that local artists get the exposure, and the public gets to see a lot of quality products.”

The Sunday Market will be at Barrie Hill Farms once a month with the launch of every festival.
