Backhoe operator charged after rolling through stop sign in Barrie neighbourhood, police say

Police charged the operator of a backhoe in a Barrie community safety zone on Wed., Sept. 17, 2025.

The operator of a backhoe learned the hard way that all drivers, including those operating heavy machinery, must follow the rules of the road.

Police say the operator was charged after allegedly rolling through a stop sign at the intersection of Ester Drive and Carley Crescent in south east Barrie.

Police say the area is a community safety zone, where motorists of all types of vehicles are expected to exercise extra caution.

Barrie police posted about the incident to social media, stating, “The Highway Traffic Act requires every driver to come to a full and complete stop at a stop sign before entering an intersection and then yield the right away to other traffic."
