Prince Edward Island’s Western Hospital is shutting down its ER Wednesday, citing a “temporary staffing shortage.” This marks the fourth time the hospital shut down this month. The hospital in Alberton, P.E.I., says the emergency department will open again for regular hours on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Until then, the nearest ER is an hour’s drive away at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside. In a news release on Tuesday evening, Health PEI advises residents in the area to call 911 in an emergency or 811 for health advice.
