B.C. Ferries vessel to be towed to terminal after mid-sailing mechanical issue

Passengers on board a B.C. Ferries vessel bound for Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver were forced to wait for help after a mechanical issue struck mid-sailing.

A B.C. Ferries vessel bound for Horseshoe Bay is being towed to the terminal by tugboats after experiencing a mechanical issue mid-sailing.

Passengers on board described waiting for assistance on an immobilized floating vessel. Photos show passengers waiting on the vessel’s vehicle deck and watching as the tugboat makes contact.

Not long after the situation was reported to CTV News, B.C. Ferries took its tracking system offline for the route, citing a “technical issue.”

In a statement, B.C. Ferries confirms the Queen of Surrey experienced a propeller shaft issue during the 4:40 p.m. sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay.

“B.C. Ferries’ engineering teams are currently investigating the issue and, while that work is underway, the vessel’s sailings for the rest of the day have been put at risk of cancellation,” a spokesperson for the transportation service said.

“We’ll continue to post updates there as they become available.”
