A swimmer in distress was rescued by bystanders at Lakeshore Beach in West St. Peter’s, P.E.I., Wednesday. Three people pulled the swimmer out of the water and RCMP responded to a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. “The swimmer was out with two other friends when they realized they were quite far offshore,” reads a news release from RCMP on Thursday. While trying to save their friend, the two other people called out to those on shore for help. “That’s when a third person entered the water, with a paddle board, and swam out to the distressed swimmer. All three were then able to get the person to shore,” reads the release. Emergency crews were dispatched and when officers got to the beach, those involved in the rescue were on the shore and the swimmer was being assessed by first responders. Const. Tim Keizer of the P.E.I. RCMP says the rescue is an example of people looking out for each other in times of need. “The swimmers in the water did the right thing calling out for help, and thanks to the third individual grabbing the paddle board, this incident had a very positive outcome,” he says.
