Visits suspended at Springhill Institution after weekend assault

The Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia has suspended visits following an assault that left three inmates injured over the weekend.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says the three inmates were attacked at the medium-security federal facility on Sunday. They went to an outside hospital for treatment and have since returned to the institution.

“The assailants have been identified, and the appropriate actions have been taken,” CSC said in a news release. “A lockdown has been temporarily put in place to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff, and inmates.”

CSC says normal operations will resume when it is “considered safe to do so.”
