Three inmates injured in assault returned to Springhill Institution

All three inmates who were injured in an assault at the Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia have returned to the facility after treatment at a hospital.

The three inmates were attacked at Springhill on Sunday, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC). The facility was then locked down.

There were no other reported injuries.

CSC says all three inmates are now in stable condition. It also notes any details that could identify them are protected under the Privacy Act.

“A number of measures are taken by CSC to ensure our facilities provide a correctional environment that is safe, secure and contributes to offender rehabilitation, and ultimately, public safety,” CSC said in an email. “CSC does not tolerate violence in its institutions. Disciplinary action is taken and/or criminal charges can be laid against offenders involved in violent incident.”
