SailGP, a global sailing event, is coming back to Halifax next month, and it’s already announced it will return to the city in 2027. The event, which first came to Halifax in 2024, confirmed the Canada Sail Grand Prix will run on May 15 and 16, 2027, as one of four North American stops that year. “Halifax has quickly established itself as one of the standout destinations on the Rolex SailGP Championship, combining world-class racing conditions with an incredibly passionate fanbase and a spectacular waterfront setting,” said Julien di Biase, chief operating officer of SailGP, in a news release. “The energy and support we’ve seen from the local community, partners and fans has been exceptional, and we’re excited to once again bring the most exciting racing on water back to Nova Scotia” Halifax will be the only SailGP event in Canada in 2027. Thirteen teams will compete on 50-foot foiling catamarans in this year’s event in the Halifax Harbour, which will run on June 20 and 21. The Halifax Regional Municipality and the Nova Scotia government each spent $1 million to earn the right to host the competition. The 2024 event reportedly brought in more than $14 million in revenue for Halifax and attracted more than 80,000 spectators.
