RCMP to take over policing services in Trenton, N.S., next month

Policing services will soon change in Trenton, N.S.

The town is currently covered by New Glasgow Regional Police. The Pictou County District RCMP will take over responsibility on April 1 at 12:01 a.m.

“We’re looking forward to serving the people of Trenton,” said Staff Sgt. Curtis MacKinnon, the district commander of the Pictou County District RCMP, in a news release.

“Our team has worked closely with the New Glasgow Regional Police Service and the Town to ensure a smooth, well-planned transition that keeps public safety at the forefront.”

Emergency services will not change and there will be no interruptions in service.

“All the necessary records and information to ensure continuity of policing services will be securely transferred from New Glasgow Regional Police Service to the RCMP,” MacKinnon added.

Police say residents should continue to call 911 for all emergencies before, during, and after the transition.

For non-emergency matters, until March 31, people can call New Glasgow Regional Police Service at 902‑752‑1941.

Beginning April 1, residents can call the Pictou County District RCMP at 902‑755‑4141.

Police are encouraging residents with questions to call the appropriate service using the numbers above.
