Police in Guelph, Ont., are investigating reports of dangerous and unlawful behaviour during a large unsanctioned Homecoming gathering over the weekend, including objects being thrown into crowds, people climbing buildings and property damage. Police said officers responded to several incidents as the gathering unfolded, with nearby businesses also reporting shoplifting and vandalism. Investigators are now reviewing reports, video footage and other evidence as they work to identify those involved and determine whether charges should be laid. Guelph police are asking the public to help identify several people captured in videos circulating online. Photographs of individuals investigators want to speak with have been posted on the Guelph Police Service website as part of its ongoing investigation. Police said anyone who recognizes the people pictured should contact investigators. “Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate, but dangerous and unlawful behavior cannot be dismissed as people simply having fun,” said Deputy Chief Steve Gill in a media release. “Throwing objects into crowds, climbing buildings and damaging property can cause serious harm. Those who put others at risk must be held accountable.” Police are also asking anyone who required medical treatment for an injury sustained during the gathering to contact investigators. Anyone whose property was damaged during the event is also being asked to report it.
