N.S. youth sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to bleach assault at Truro hospital

A youth has been sentenced to probation in connection with an assault involving bleach at a hospital in Truro, N.S., last spring.

The Truro Police Service responded to an assault at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on May 6, 2025.

Truro police said at the time that the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was not a patient, but was visiting someone at the hospital.

Chief Dave MacNeil said the youth left the hospital, came back with a bottle of liquid bleach and threw it at two security officers.

One of the officers was struck in the face.

The boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested at the scene.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a weapon in Truro provincial court on Nov. 24, 2025.

The teen returned to court on Monday and was sentenced to 12 months of probation with conditions.
