Body of man who jumped into ocean identified: N.S. RCMP

The Nova Scotia RCMP has identified a man who jumped into the ocean in Aulds Cove and was found dead last week.

Officers responded to reports of a man walking along Highway 104, impeding traffic, around 8:55 p.m. on Aug. 14, according to an RCMP news release.

Police say when they approached the man, he fled and jumped off a steep embankment into the ocean.

“Officers contacted fire services and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre for assistance in searching for the man,” the release said. “At approximately 11 p.m., RCMP officers in a boat from the Port Hawkesbury Detachment recovered the man’s remains from the water with the help of firefighters.”

Police say their investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
