N.S. man charged for allegedly stealing mail, causing thousands of dollars in property damage

Police say a man is facing charges after people in Baccaro, N.S., had their mail stolen last week.

The RCMP responded to a report of damaged mailboxes at a property on Old Loop Road around 2 p.m. on April 23.

Police say multiple mailboxes had been pried open and mail had been stolen.

It’s estimated the theft resulted in several thousand dollars of property damage.

Police say they identified the suspect as Carmen Shaw of Barrington.

The 28-year-old was arrested that same day.

He has been charged with:

• theft of mail
• mischief under $5,000
• breach of probation (two counts)

Police say Shaw was also charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent following a different complaint on April 23.

He appeared in Barrington provincial court last Friday and was released on conditions, pending future court appearances.
