New Glasgow, N.S., police warn of high-risk offender in community

The New Glasgow Regional Police is warning the public about a high-risk sex offender who is now residing in the community.

Matthew William Rozins, 43, has been released in the community under supervision, according to police.

Police say Rozins has been convicted of offences in Nova Scotia and Barrie, Ont., including:

• sexual assault
• assault
• indecent act
• trespassing at night
• criminal harassment
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• failure to appear in court
• failure to comply with a probation order
• breach of undertaking
• breach of release order

Police say Rozins is also facing charges in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick of:

• indecent act
• obstruction of a peace officer
• public mischief
• assault
• uttering threats

“This information is being provided to alert members of the public to Rozins’ presence in the community and to support public safety,” a police news release reads. “The New Glasgow Regional Police strongly denounce any form of vigilantism or harassment directed toward this individual.

“Any actions taken by members of the public that threaten, intimidate, or interfere with this individual may constitute a criminal offence and will be investigated by police.”

Police say Rozins is prohibited from being in the presence of anyone under the age of 16 and he cannot attend public parks, daycare centres, school grounds, playgrounds, community centres or public swimming areas.
