The Halifax County Exhibition has returned to Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., for its 143rd year. Bruce Murphy, president of the Middle Musquodoboit Agricultural Society, says this year’s theme is “Cultivating Communities.” “It’s really about families getting together, coming together and celebrating everything that the farmers work hard on all year long,” says Murphy. “They bring cattle, beef, Holsteins, horses. So, they do all their exhibiting that they’ve been working so hard on for the year. Their trophy is coming here showing off their animals and making it better and promoting their farms as well, so people know where they’re milk is coming from, where their beef is coming from, stuff like that.” It’s a deep-rooted tradition for the people of Middle Musquodoboit and beyond. Chelsea Scullion has been coming to the exhibition with Twin Valley Farms for the last 36 years. “We show our draft horses. We put a lot of work into this year and a lot of training, of course. It’s always a big rush to get here, but we love doing it,” she says. There’s no shortage of fun this year. They’ve added new rides to their amusement park and lots of food vendors. “Especially for a little village of Middle Musquodoboit, this is huge. It brings in people from everywhere,” says Murphy. The event will conclude at 10 p.m. on Saturday. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
