Male in custody after emergency alert issued in Enfield, N.S.

The subject of a Saturday morning emergency alert in the Halifax area has been taken into custody.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., people living in an Enfield neighbourhood were told to shelter in place as RCMP searched for a “dangerous man with a firearm.” Police had said the suspect was last seen in the area of Oldham Road and Old Post Road.

At the time, people in that area were told to “stay inside and close and lock doors and windows.”

Around 1:40 p.m. police said “the male that was the subject of the alert” had been safely brought into custody. The alert was then declared over.

“There is no longer a threat to the public, and there’s no longer a need to shelter in place,” read an update from police.

Prior to the alert being issued, police had said there were no reports of shots fired.

Police said officers will remain in the area to continue with their investigation.

Late Saturday afternoon, police said investigators were seeking information from anyone who may have seen the suspect in the Enfield or Elmsdale areas between 9:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m.

Police describe him as five-foot-nine, weighing 180 pounds, with long blonde hair, and face and neck tattoos. RCMP said his clothing changed throughout the incident.

“He may have been wearing a white t-shirt, grey hoodie and/or a bright orange shirt,” said police.

Police have not said the age of the person taken into custody.
