Body of missing Sydney man found: Cape Breton police

A Cape Breton man who was missing since March has been found dead.

Cape Breton Regional Police confirmed Wednesday the body of a Sydney, N.S., man missing since late March been found.

Police say the body of Connor Ross MacDonald was found in a wooded area off Moosehead Trail in Mira on Tuesday afternoon.

MacDonald was last seen leaving his residence on Queen Street in Sydney around 4:30 p.m. on March 26.

Search and Rescue teams spent the Easter weekend searching the woods around Moose Head Trail after MacDonald’s truck was located on Morrison Road.

According to a news release Wednesday, a new set of footprints about three kilometres from the roadway were found by Cape Breton Search and Rescue, leading to a helicopter and drone operator being called to assist. The drone operator found human remains among large spruce boughs and sent a photograph and GPS coordinates to searchers.

“There is nothing to indicate foul play is a factor in this death; the deceased has been referred to the Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and to confirm the cause of death,” read the news release.
